Pledge Of Allegiance
H. English
The Pledge of Allegiance should not be mandatory in public schools, but there should also be a lesson about it. Teachers should teach the students what the Pledge means and about the history. When I was in Eighth grade, my teacher taught me about the pledge of allegiance and the star spangled banner. Although I may have found it boring at the time, I know that it was useful knowledge that not many people have. When we pledge allegiance to the flag, we are also pledging our allegiance to our country, which I believe to be very important. Even though I believe that we should say the Pledge, I don’t think that it should be mandatory, because some people don’t want to pledge allegiance to the USA. If they were born in another country, they may not be that loyal to America.
The American Flag is a symbol of our country, and using it for protest is wrong. My mom has told me ever since I was little that I should always respect the flag, and that the only way to dispose of an American Flag is to burn it. Since she told me that, I always wondered why people burn flags for protest. I don’t think that burning a Flag for protest should be illegal; however, I do believe that people should stop. It is disrespectful to our flag and our country. America was first built on equal rights for everybody, two of those rights being freedom of speech and freedom of expression. That means that although protests are annoying, and that burning a flag for protest is disrespectful, we should still put up with all of it.
