Political Culture
The method and social groups that candidates campaign to in the United States
has continued to evolve within the American culture. Americans have seen a momentous
response from a particular age group. Yes, young adults are making it a priority to visit
their local voting poles. Teenagers have made their presence because they have been
targeted by mass media, such as the following; blast email campaigns, phone texts,
“YouTube” videos, Myspace, and a series of interviews hosted by MTV. These
techniques have intrigued these young adults to go to the poles and vote for their
“popular” politician because they’ve been asked to be “cool” and vote!
Another approach that has been very effective, in reaching out to this young social
group, has been hosting national televised debates within university campuses throughout
the country. By attending these national events, young Americans are permitted to
interact with their future commander in chief and address any questions or concerns that
directly affect them. Examples would be voicing their concerns on the cost of college
tuition reaching a historical high or increasing the education budget so that schools have
adequate funds to purchase books, pay teacher’s salaries, and fund after school activities.
The state of the economy is of high importance to them as well, as these future graduates
are concerned that they’ll be able to become employed, within their profession, upon
graduation.
Young voters have amazed us with their presence during the recent presidential
elections. Candidates have done an exceptional job at hiring marketing consultants.
They’ve cater to these politicians by advising them on current trends in order to
reach out to this elicit group and earn their votes. Undoubtedly, the use of
today’s mass media has changed the way elections are run in the 20th century. As the
