Isn’t marriage meant to be the unification of two people who love each-other? If this is true then why are homosexual couples denied from joining the institution of marriage? Isn’t Australia meant to be a just and fair country? If so then why deny the unification of a homosexual couple, but not of a straight couple? Is their love not the same?
Citizens of Australia, I have come to you as a friend, to ask you to help me fight for equality between same-sex couples and straight couples. You know Sydney has one of the highest gay and lesbian populations in the world. An d why do Australians think it’s okay to be gay, promoting clubs enjoying a the Mardi Gras yet drawing a line at marriage? Would you call this fair?
Gays are also stripped of many benefits that are involved with marriage such as inheritance, pensions and hospital visitation rights. Marriage is also very important to gays when it comes to adoption and children, these children need a steady relationship to look upon for moral support and to live a normal life. If the parents were denied of marriage, the child would be severely affected, financially and emotionally.
A lot of religious people think gay marriage is wrong, therefore opposing what I am telling you today, but it’s not their business who gets married and who doesn’t, they should only start worrying when the couples decide to have their wedding at their church.
If you think gays will ruin Australia’s reputation, you’re wrong, it will only strengthen it, reaffirming Australia’s claimed diversity and its promise to a place where people don’t have to hide or give up differences in order to be treated equally. And marriage is not just about reproduction, if this was the case then people who were unable to have children would be refused marriage licenses, gay or straight. Homosexual couples want to marry for other reasons, for love, companionship and commitment. Why else would they want to unify their love with marriage?
