The Need To Diversify Methods Of Evaluation
We will discuss a topic on “The Need to Diversify Methods of Evaluation in Malaysian Schools”. ‘Need’ is defined as requirement, necessary, duty or obligation; ‘Diversify’ means give variety (to); ‘Method(s)’ is a procedure or technique and ‘Evaluation’ means an act of evaluating. The key words in this definition will give us an overview of the whole discussion later. We will include the problems of evaluation methods in Malaysian schools today and methods that we suggest as solutions to the problems in this paper. But before we go further with the discussions, we will briefly give descriptions of today’s Malaysian schools and a critic from the expert.
Education in Malaysia as defined by Wikipedia is government-sponsored schools, private schools, or through homeschooling. The education system is highly centralised, particularly for primary and secondary schools, with state and local governments having little say in the curriculum or other major aspects of education. It is stated that the system is centralised and in other words, it is fully controlled by the ‘persekutuan’ government and state governments have less opportunity to speak up. The wronged definition of Malaysian schools may give us some negative perspectives of the Malaysian education system.
On July 2008, the Regent of Perak Raja Nazrin Shah said that getting a string of A's is meaningless if students fail to understand, appreciate and practice good values, and describing that excellent results as mere external appearance, there would be uneven development of human capital if students failed to inculcate good morals. This will lead to society and the country to suffer. This is the fatal disease in the Malaysian schools nowadays and we will now discuss in details the problems of evaluation methods in the Malaysian schools.
