“Should the U.S. produce GMO’s to stop world hunger?”
“Genetically Modified Organisms are organisms in which the genetic material (DNA) has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally by mating or natural processes.” (unknown) There are many uncertainties that still exist in the areas of genetically engineered food safety for humans and for the environment. Should we put these engineered foods on the market to save world hunger when scientists say that there are still unknown facts about these foods? Another striking suspension is the strong rejection of GMO’s from the Europeans. Although Genetically Modified Foods are questioned it could stop world hunger for countries that lack the division of resources to plant natural foods.
Genetically Modified Foods have not been proven safe for us to sell to other countries. We should not give these foods to other countries not knowing if it could cause food poison or even kill people from there toxins. It might stop world hunger but kill people in the process. “Franken Foods can unleash pathogens, contain allergens and toxins, and increase the risk of cancer, herbicide exposure, and be harmful to fetuses and infants.” (Harris) “There are many doctors that are even uncertain about the safety issues of GMO’s. Fore example the L-tryphtophan case was a toxic contaminant that was likely due to the GE bacteria used in producing the food supplement L-tryphtophan killed 37 people and hospitalized 1,500.” (Harris) Is this the way to stop world hunger by killing people so they don’t have a reason to be hungry? The chemicals they put in these foods aren’t safe enough to send to other countries. What if we kill a lot of starving people and the country thinks the U.S. did it on purpose. The U.S. would start a feud and would definitely not solve the solution to world hunger.
“Another life threatening fact from these modified foods is allergic reactions. In 1996, an incident in Brazil was...
