My boyfriend and I have been together for almost a year. It is only normal for couples to experiment with sex, which is what we did. After missing my first period, I had a hunch that I could possibly be pregnant. On April 10th 2008, I took a pregnancy test; to my horror- I was pregnant. How can a 19 year old have a child and continue on with her life like she planned? She can not. After spending days weighing out the pros and cons, I went to Planned Parenthood to find out how far along I was (which was about six weeks), I have decided that I still have much that I want to accomplish before starting a family. Although it’s going to be hard for me to go through with an abortion, it’s the best choice for me right now. Many pregnant teens feel the same way I do; scared, lonely, and not ready for a child. They have planned their lives differently. They believe that they should have the choice over whether or not they have their baby. Other people, who are against abortion, believe that terminating a fetus is killing a human being. They claim that when women choose to have sex they are also choosing to take the risk of getting pregnant. Pro-life supporters say that a woman should accept the consequences of becoming pregnant and not just take the easy way out. However, the majority of Americans continue to support abortion rights and a woman’s choice to have control over her body.
People who support a pro-life position believe that abortion is murder. They think that a fetus is considered a human being. The baby that the woman has aborted could have potentially grown into a man or woman who could have made a difference in our world. At seven weeks from conception fingers and toes can be identified, and within a month a healthy fetus has a heartbeat. This verifies their belief that a fetus is considered a life at the moment of conception. Why should anyone abort a child who within a few months can kick and even smile? These people also claim...
