Public vs. Private
There a lot of people these days who seem to think that there is no difference between a public high school and a private high school. Although both institutions have to follow certain guide lines they are in fact quite different. These differences however can only be determined by someone who has experienced both. These differences begin right with the student body and continue right onto the role of the faculty members. Although both institutions have intentions of giving the best education possible with in their means, private schools have a slight but different style in delivering this.
In a public high school you will find a diverse mix of students involving jocks, hippies, gothic, preps, skaters, and punk rockers. Most of the student body attends school because the state requires it or because there parents make them. With only half the school attending for learning purposes, it creates a poor learning environment and with the amount of kids in a class it is hard to get the attention of the teacher for a moment of extra help. Because of this, it is proven that private high school kids have higher test scores than those in public schools because of a better teacher relationship. Private school students are usually there under their will and enjoy the academic challenge. Since private schools are selective there are higher standards that students must follow, and with this come harder classes. However, these classes have very few students in it allowing more one on one time with the teacher.
Since most students who attend private school stay in dorms they in a way create there own small community. Since these kids are considered young to be living away from home, the role of the faculty now turns into a second parent.
