Reassessing Riordan
Purgatory Design Systems (aka Learning Team A) recently received a service request, designated SR-rm-001, from Hugh McCauley, Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Riordan Manufacturing. This service request asked Purgatory to make suggestions for improvements and “specific systems changes” for the company’s inventory or manufacturing process. Additionally, the service request stated that Riordan Manufacturing would like to implement the use of new computerized systems that will help to improve the efficiency of the company and its employees.
Purgatory has taken a close look at the entire process of Riordan Manufacturing, and the following areas:
1. Shipping and Receiving
2. Manufacturing, and
3. Inventory control.
After concluding our investigation, it is Purgatory’s belief that there are many improvements that can be made in each of these areas with the implementation of computers and other technology. It is the belief of Purgatory that these changes and additions will eventually create a workplace that will work more efficiently and effectively.
The purpose of this paper is to suggest specific systems changes that will improve the companies manufacturing and inventory process. This will be done by creating a business requirement definition for all potential system upgrades and improvements that will need to be made to the information technology (IT) department or information system consultants. The learning team will also provide additional information like executive summaries of the company and flow charts. This will assist Hugh McCauley in his decision on whether to implement the required changes.
