Although many might think that The Red Scare and the Salem Witch Trials from The Crucible, have very little in common, there are very many similar qualities between the two. Both have an effect on innocent people. Also, both involve a group of people that are fighting for a cause. And these few leaders who are pushing their cause along, tear up towns and nations, alike. Both are very comparable in the way that they think that either witches or communists are actually alive in their village or nation. The fact that they were alive is debatable, but however, the killings of these people were very alive. The Red Scare and The Salem Witch Trials are similar because both situations were triggered by fear, involved the destruction of villages and nations and displayed a lack of evidence and injustice in the their trials.
As you look take a deeper look into the Salem Witch Trials and the Red Scare it is very evident that both are triggered by fear. On a close examination of the characters, you can see that the village of Salem was very scared of even the slightest thought of witches in their village. Once Abigail Williams starts to stir things up in Salem, all hell breaks loose in Salem. And suddenly there are “witches” alive in Salem. The Red Scare presents similar story. Many people in the United States are scared of what they think are communists. Webster’s Dictionary’s definition of a communist is: an adherent or advocate of a Communist government, party, or movement. So they, do as the Salem people did, accuse people of being communists, and all of this is completed in the spite of fear.
