As more and more young teenagers become mothers and fathers, it is crucial for them to know there are many programs within their states that they can receive assistance during their pregnancy. Our teen mothers must know that a pregnancy without health care check ups can result in an unhealthy birth and even health issues after birth.
In the State of Arizona, there is a program called AHCCCS, or the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System. However, this program is not just for teenage pregnancy, but also for a wide range of group health coverage. The AHCCCS offers health care plans and coverage for families, children, pregnant woman, and adults without children, seniors and small businesses.
The AHCCCS mission statement is “to provide comprehensive, quality health care to those in need. AHCCCS is Arizona’s Medicaid Program and designed to deliver quality health care coverage (www.azahcccs.gov ).   With health insurance coverage being one of the main programs that AHCCCS offers, they have a few options, which include; regular health plans, Indian health services, long-term health care plans, regional behavioral health authorities and tribal regional health authorities (www.azahcccs.gov ). Some of the programs that AHCCCS offers do have a form that needs to have approval before coverage will occur. For example, the Kids Care program has an application that must receive approval but also has premiums that are based upon income per family.
Each area of health coverage offers a number of health plans to choose. One of the most commonly used health plans is the Baby Arizona plan. The Baby Arizona plan depends on the OBGYN providers that play an important role in the success of this program. Baby Arizona offers pregnant woman medical coverage through AHCCCS during their first prenatal visit.
