In this analogy, I will be comparing and contrasting two historical figures from different eras regarding their policies in dealing with domestic and foreign issues.   I will address the strategy and implementation of policy for Franklin D. Roosevelt and Ronald W. Regan beginning with their domestic policies that was established within their first Hundred Days in office and their approach to establishing a sound base of economic welfare to improve the economy.   I will examine how their foreign policy, though different in approach, helped establish foreign partnerships, such as support from the United Kingdom, leading the country out from disorder, and bolstering the moral of the American people.
Domestic Affairs
“No President can really succeed at doing big things if they’re not able to transport Americans to a higher place.” (Alter, Waldman, & Edwards, 2008).   During a time of need the nation calls upon men who can lead them from despair.   The men who pledged to help bring America out of turmoil, such as the Great Depression and the Cold War, were Franklin D. Roosevelt and Ronald W. Regan.   Their approach to domestic affairs within their first Hundred Days in office enabled them to implement policies and establish organizations to effect positive change throughout the economy.   Roosevelt’s approach under his New Deal policy was to “stimulate the economy, decrease unemployment while stimulating the industry, and bring hope to the American people” (Carnes & Garraty, 2006).   Regan on the other hand, approached his policies based on a supply-side economics while using a laissez-faire approach to reduce the American people’s reliance on the government and sought to stimulate the economy with a large across-the-board tax cut.   “The purpose of the Regan administration was to simply reinvigorate the American people and reduce the reliance upon the government” (Regan 2008).
