Review Of Geography Lesson Documentary
I enjoyed this geography lesson the most this year because I genuinely found the documentary very interesting. It was the first time I’ve ever seen anyone standing near a live erupting volcano. I could see lava boiling and the internal part of the earth. It is so different from what we live on – the external part – the plate. I found out that earthquakes are terrifyingly destructive and how in just a few seconds they can destroy millions of things and can be extremely very costly.
I found out that there actually a lake that is hot and that you can swim in. I found out how the lakes water gets hot and that swimming in a lake of pure hot water is obviously very soothing and can cure you somehow. I found out that it was called geyser. GEYSER! I found out how mountains are formed and that the Himalayas increased 6 meters in height when there was the earthquake in North Kashmir in Pakistan. I found out that actually the core of the earth is the earth’s heat energy. I also found out that when there is a volcano it’s not just negative it’s also good for the environment because there is new crust that has just formed – new land – destruction and renewal. I didn’t know that the core of the earth is actually as hot as the surface of the sun – I thought the sun would be way hotter.
I did not know that the earth’s surface was split up into 7 areas which are our continents. I found out that the North American Plate was sliding past the European plate 2cm a year. The most interesting thing I learned though was that once there was a big supercontinent and after billions of years there are now 7 separate continents. If the continents did not move apart and stayed together then we wouldn’t have to fly on planes as a means of transport and so we wouldn’t have created so much pollution so there wouldn’t be any global warming.
I would undoubtedly recommend to anyone spend their time in a geography lesson watching this DVD hosted by Dr Iain Stewart. It is a change from what...
