With the fast changing world, it seems the past 15 years we still haven’t learnt much about HR yet. With factors as demographics, technology, globalization and increasing competitiveness, HR will become more in the spotlight. The last 15 years HR has made some steps:
o Line managers become professionally more responsible about their employees; this means HR issues has become more interesting and better defined.
o HR processes has been automated and standardized due technology innovations.
o Organizations have been transformed to obtain more flexible labor forces.
o The mindset of renewed HR has become more professionally.
o In organizations, HR has joint forces with other disciplines, like controlling, to become a more role player in the business.
These steps have been necessary because of the relation between globalization, flexible organizations, working smart and the awareness of talent management. Because line managers are more responsible for HR in their own discipline, the future of HR should revive:
o HR administrative duties are being outsourced;
o Traditional HR specialists are being transformed to process experts; they are designing en developing HR processes.
o Redesigning of organizations by having the scope on lean thinking and management.
o To follow the Get-Keep-Grow strategy by having the scope on retention.
o Making qualified people responsible for processes.
As for the above mentioned reasons HR could revive by making a combination of organization- and talent development. It starts with developing a strong philosophy in the organization and sharing this vision with every member of the organization. Making people understand that they contribute in making sense in their discipline. To reduce the motivation dilemma, people should be more energized by involving instead of de-energizing by only delegate.
