Overview
Ten companies were benchmarked to identify problems and implement solutions facing Riordan Manufacturing. Specific areas of research include design elements of an effective employee relations program, creating a career development planning model that incorporates attention to key development success factors, evaluating compensation and motivation practices as they relate to organizational strategy, and the impact of ethics on determination of compensation and reward systems. The solutions identified will assist in preparing a successful problem solution plan for Riordan Manufacturing.
Design Elements of an Effective Employee Relations Program
A large problem facing Harley Davidson was the human resource (HR) role in the company strategy. Harley-Davidson partnered with Accenture to implement the Accenture Human Capital Development Framework identifying areas within the HR department needing improvement. Identifiable areas were tools to monitor quantitative and qualitative workforce metrics, requesting employee responses to human capital programs value, and prioritizing programs and procedures according to the business benefit (Accenture, 2008).
Implementing the framework and valuing the employee feedback prompted the company to develop HR’s role in monitoring the most important metrics selected by the organizations workforce. The action improved the credibility of the company and enforced the value of the employees. Harold Scott explains, “the Accenture framework validated the work we are doing in relation to the HR strategy and identified practical actions to improve the functions” (Accenture, 2008).
