All of the four proposals present a unique, yet   important purpose in their function as professional documents. The diction, style, and type of letter are all different, but each one is suitable to the situation in which it is addressing. I believe all four of these documents are written to a professional standard, but each document has it strengths and weaknesses that should be analyzed.
First of all, Sample one is a letter of recommendation that the supervisor of Discovery Communications is writing on behalf of her intern Calvin McCarthy. The writer’s purpose in this letter of recommendation is to help Calvin obtain a job at a marketing firm. The marketing firm would find this document very useful in their selection of an applicant because it gives a good report on Calvin at his previous workplace. Ms. Clarice Gailey, who is the person in charge of selecting the applicant for the open   job at the company she works at, which is McNally and Associates. Ms. Clarice Gailey would be very impressed with such a letter because if Discovery Communications is a well known   and efficiently run company, then Calvin could manage the job as he was able to handle the job at McNally and Associates. The letter of recommendation contains such elements as Calvin’s education background, job background, and his contributions to Discovery Communications. Both the writer and the reader serve as higher ranking members of their respective organizations. Likewise, both of these women probably respect and trust the opinion of the other woman. The style in which the letter of recommendation is written is extremely professional and written in proper format. The writer includes the recipient’s information at the very top of the page in the left margin, and leaves her email at the end of the letter in case she needs to be contacted.
