Serial Killers Questionaire

Do you see any commonalities or similarities in the killers?
The serial killers, for the most part, suffer from a poor childhood, single parent families, or abuse as children.   Most serial killers seemed to exhibit psychopathic behaviors and create an alternate society for themselves.   This is because most of their actions do not conform with the norms of the society they live inhabit.   This can be seen in their lack of empathy and guilt and often egocentric and impulsive thoughts.

A quick search on online states that serial killers may also posses these general characteristics:

• They are often very intelligent, with IQs in the "bright normal" range.
• Despite their high IQs, they do poorly in school, have trouble holding down jobs, and often work menial jobs.
• Many spend time in institutions as children and have records of early psychiatric problems.

With the first 4 (Manson, Gasey, Lucas, Williams), how are they deviant and are they insane?
Manson – Manson’s ideas about society and minorities was definitely deviant with the views of society.   Mason has clearly created an alternate world for himself where his ideas are welcomed.   Many were drawn into this world and resulted in the formation of the Manson Family.   Manson’s insanity starts when his ideas begin to influence harm and violence to specific people and minorities.

Gasey – The actions of Gasey appear to be normal on the surface.   He is the friendly neighborhood clown.   However, Gasey was a child molester who raped and killed 33 boys.   This is most definitely deviant.   Because Gasey has no remorse at his execution with his final words, "kiss my ass," he is absolutely insane.

Lucas – Henry Lee Lucas is known as one of America’s most prolific serial killers.   He does seem to regret and deny his crimes when he states he is “not a serial killer.”   Because Lucas is a serial killer he is most definitely deviant, however, he may not be insane due to some regret or thought of his murders....
