There are many forms of financing for small businesses. As a business owner you should research all options available to you and determine the most logical that fits your needs. This will require you to compare all the pros and cons of each. For our book store we need to determine if our currant arrangement is worth holding onto or if we should move on to another option.
Financing Options for Book Store
Our book store is currently financed by a relative. There are several other options available that we will look at here and determine how our funding will proceed. At our disposal we have secured loans, unsecured loans, angel investors, grants, and of course our family members. These are just a few that we have chosen to look into. The pros and cons will help us to determine which way to go in the future regarding financing.
Secured and unsecured loans are funds borrowed from a bank or financial institution. The unsecured loan will be granted to you without collateral based solely on the institutions belief that you will repay. They will generally have higher rates and will the loan will be for lower amounts. Secured loans require you have something to provide as collateral against the borrowed amount. One of the most popular forms of secured loans is the home equity loan. As the name describes you sign rights to your home over to the lender and should you default on the payments the lender could end up with your home.
Grants are offered by local, state, and federal organizations. These are funds that do not have to be paid back. Although this clearly sounds like the most promising option, grants are difficult to get. Most organizations are looking to invest in researching opportunities and there is a lot of red tape to get through. There are proposals to write and you must submit your planned use for the money. These must all fulfill the outlined requirements of the organization.
