Speech On How To Hit A Baseball
Informative Speech
Attention getter: The bottom of the ninth, down by one, one out, and a bases are loaded. What do you do?
General: The purpose of this speech is to show the strategy that is involved in the game of baseball.
Thesis statement: This is a game that involves an athlete mind and physical talent.
Preview: I'm going to take this class thru three of the little things that help teams win games and that go without being noticed. Bunting, Hit and Runs, and Sacrifice fly.
Transition #1- whether you hit for power, you hit for average, or have trouble hitting, you can always help your team by laying down a sacrifice bunt.
1. Bunt
a. It advances a runner into scoring position.
b. Usually used in the late innings in critical situations.
c. The art of bunting, a drag or a push.
Transition #2- One of the most devastating things in the game of baseball when it is executed properly is a hit and run.
2. Hit and run
a. Usually put the runner in motion from first base and put the runner in motion.
b. The base runner has to make sure that he doesn't get picked of and also half way to second base he has to peak and make sure the hitter has put the ball in play.
c. The hitter has to put the ball on the ground and preferably on the right side. If the hitter does his job the runner from first will advance to second.
Transition #3- One more stage of the game is a fly ball hit by the batter into the outfield. This results in the runner tagging up and advancing on the catch.
3. Sacrifice Fly
a. Usually with a runner on third it is used to allow time for that base runner to score.
b. The runner has to wait until the ball is caught before he can leave his base.
