In this paper the team will research, evaluate and show the reasons the sport of baseball did not become the sport of choice for all Americans. Here are a few questions the paper will attempt to answer.   Why did the attendance begin to slump in the early days of baseball? What steps were taken to correct the problem? What would the face of baseball look like today had things been different? There are many variables that caused blacks to step away from baseball and put their energy into other sports. The team will discuss many variables, which contributed to and still have an effect on the diversity challenges of baseball.   The team has also researched four peer-reviewed papers and will describe how the articles relate to the topic. The paper will also include a sampling design showing what population was sample to get the results and identify any biases or errors that occur when sampling. And finally, the paper will show the data that was collected in graph form.
"Today’s black major leaguers owe a debt of gratitude to men such as Sam Hairston and Jackie Robinson for making it easy to find accommodations on the road, and so much more (Simpson, 2007)." Robinson re-integrated the major leagues as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers 60 years ago today. Fewer and fewer American blacks are pursuing the path cleared by Robinson. When the Red Sox became the final major league team to integrate in 1959 by signing Pumpsie Green, nearly 1-in-5 major leaguers was black. As recently as 1983, the ratio was better than 1-in-4. Now the figure is closer to 1-in-12.
