Professor Porter avers that “As all companies come to embrace Internet technology … the Internet itself will be neutralized as a source of [competitive] advantage.” The more robust competitive advantages, he says, will arise instead from traditional strengths such as unique products, strong personal service, relationships, and sustainable operational efficiencies.
o What are the problems with this statement?
Think about vertical versus horizontal integration. Has the Internet changed anything, when it comes to "shared services", what about partnerships? Can business' now compete by "how they do business" not just by the products and or services they offer?
• Is the idea of the business model redundant? Why, why not?
Discuss answers to this question in this thread. Think about why Porter may not believe in the concept of a business model. Past approaches to how companies do business have been governed by the industry they belong to....

• What has changed with the Internet and business over the last 6 years? Do you believe that strategy now plays a role for businesses on the Internet?
This one should be obvious....look for some examples in the paper.
• Identify businesses and show how they have capitalised/suffered from the Internet.
You can identify both dot coms and traditional companies with who use the Internet as one channel.
List your favourite disasters and sucesses (you should know the list at least of successfuls ;) )
