The use of technology in medicine has become one of the most important advancement in our society today. This breakthrough in medicine has given many Americans and people around the world a chance to live longer and have better health. The recent technological breakthroughs in the medical field have played a major role in this development. The cost will always be an issue concerning this breakthrough. Mainly because the equipment used to provide the services are very expensive to make. But if an individual has a life threatening health concern, I think it will be a small amount pay if your life is going to be saved.
Technological innovations including artificial joint replacements, artificial heart valves, heart lung machines, robotic surgical assistants, cardiac pacemakers and even brain pacemakers have been introduced. In addition to this, assortments of medical procedures are being performed with an increased accuracy and a better success rate than it was before. Advancements in video imaging, endoscope technology and instrumentation have combined with computers and robotics to reduce the need for open surgeries performed with a scalpel. A few medical interventions falling under the of minimally invasive surgery, which means a group of new medical technologies employing endoscopic devices, laser beams or shock waves, instead of a scalpel to penetrate the damaged or affected area of the patient’s body. Robotics sometimes assists in the procedures to achieve a specific end result inside a patient’s body. For me, the introduction of the minimally invasive surgery technologies has become one of the best breakthroughs in medical technology. It is much cheaper to have hysteroscopy laser surgery done on women, than using the convectional open surgery. Not only is it cost effective, but it reduces the pain, cramping and since it is laser it will stop the bleeding and reduces the chances of infection and hemorrhaging.
