The Tempest

The beginning of this play was hard for me to catch on to because of how it starts. It started with the new Duke of Milan, Antonio with other characters, Alonso, King of Naples, his brother Sebastian, Prospero's friend Gonzalo, and the Boatswain. The thing that confused me the most was why these specific story characters were introduced first, and were on a boat, which was being destroyed by a storm, which I later find out is being done by Prospero, Antonio's brother.
At the beginning of this scene, Prospero and his daughter, Miranda are introduced. It was hard to believe for me that Prospero, being such a strong magician and seeming very intelligent, could be banished from being the Duke of Milan by his brother. The story told by prospero to Miranda was very long and complicated to me, and I didn't figure a lot of it out until the end of the story, when most of it was explained in the last scene.
