II. Description of Activity
Occupational therapy uses activities of daily living to help people with mental disabilities achieve maximum functioning and independence at home and in the workplace.
It refers to the use of meaningful occupation to assist people who have difficulty in achieving a healthy and balanced lifestyle; and to enable an inclusive society so that all people can participate to their potential in daily occupations of life.
A wide variety of people may benefit from occupational therapy. These may include people with mental health difficulties such as:
• schizophrenia, ADHD and post-traumatic stress
• obsessive compulsions, or diagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), diagnosed Bipolar Disorder and etc.
In this occupational therapy entitled “Isilid Mo, Larawan Mo”, students will teach their clients how to make a picture frame out of simple materials such as illustration board and acetate. Students will be giving simple and clear instructions as they assist their clients. This occupational therapy can actually describe who the client is and how he feels about himself.
This therapy aims to promote mental wellness by allowing the client to follow instructions and to use their skills in working. Furthermore, this activity can boost clients’ self-esteem and sense of accomplishment. Upon their discharge in the institution, they can use this as income generating.

B. Occupation creates structure and organizes time.
C. Occupation brings meaning to life, culturally and personally.
The underlying philosophy of occupational therapy has evolved from being a diversion from illness, to treatment, to enablement through meaningful occupation.
