I decided to do my final research paper on virtual teams/workplace, the reason for this is because over the last five weeks I had the experience on working in a student self-directed work team which at times during the fives weeks became very complicated.
It became complicated because I was working with a team that had varied schedules and in my opinion with team members that didn’t take the class seriously or were not disciplined or motivated enough to work as a virtual team.
We dealt other issues of team members not being able to get their assignments completed on time due to computer problems or wasn’t able to join the team discussion at a certain time due to a schedule conflict.
At this point it became apparent to me that I should do my research paper on this topic to see how others in the virtual world were able to be successful with virtual teams whether it is working as students in a group or as a team in a working environment.
I decide to find out what the meaning of a virtual team was and I found his definition on Wikipedia and on the Management Help website. The definition states that a “Virtual Team – also known as a Geographically Dispersed Team (GDT) – is a group of individuals who work across time, space, and organizational boundaries with links strengthened by webs of communication technology. They have complementary skills and are committed to a common purpose, have interdependent performance goals, and share an approach to work for which they hold themselves mutually accountable.
