Introduction
If you were going to be abandoned on a deserted island and could only bring one thing, what would you like to take? Of course there is no right answer to this question, but I am a resort management and development student. Therefore my answer is people. People that can work for you and turn the empty island into a world class resort.
Due to this interest question and to understanding a resorts development and managerial process, this paper is considered comparing and contrasting two different island resorts. Pangkor Laut Resort is a developed resort which is built in 1993
Global trends
Island resorts are entirely surrounded by water, have miles of tranquil beaches, and natural views for relaxing travelers. Therefore, the global trends affecting this section of the tourism industry are both positive and negative. Nowadays, in the modern society, technology is bringing work, and stress into mostly every area of our lives. It is becoming easier for people to become tired and frustrated, and an escape from home to travel and relax is the most popular way to remove stress. As the owner of the Pangkor Laut Resort says: “[Travelers come to island resorts to] affluent international businesspeople who seek safe, isolated hideaways for themselves and their families, business people who may even own hotels but rarely vacation in them and isolated” (Andrea R.2005). An island resorts is a solitary locale that is primarily focused on the relaxation of its clients. The resorts must take into account their clients interests, their personal benefits and their personal investment of time and money towards concerning their lives. The world population continues to grow and in the developed world people more want to go out to enjoy different experiences by traveling. Higher education leads to larger lifetime earnings, a broader view of society, and more desire and opportunity to travel.
