Abstract
Cheating has increased in the last few years and people have access to new technology and access to wireless internet and devices. What are those devices and to what extent will people go to cheat? What can learning institutions do to minimize cheating? On the other hand, can learning institutions use these present technologies to aide in the learning processes and should learning institutions reevaluate the testing process to reflect a new world environment. With wireless technology and access to information and sources available through the internet as a portal to access to all types of information, will this impact our culture and change the way we study, work and learn?
Using Technology to Cheat
Individuals, Students, Professionals, Athletes, Politicians and even Corporations have used different types of technology to cheat. From Corporate fraud to identity theft, bank fraud, stocks and commodity fraud have become a part of our everyday society. What is gained varies from personal and financial gain to the prestige and power that feeds the ego of the person(s) involved and that fulfills a requirement of the human condition. Elections have been won and lost by the use of technology to benefit the corrupt individuals. Technologies that were only used and available to the secret service organizations are now available to the public and at a very affordable price.
The internet has opened up a wireless portal to access all types of information that are useful in the education process but has opened up the access to private and confidential information that can be used to commit fraudulent acts.
The reason to cheating may occur when the individual is not prepared to meet the obligations and perceived needs in the work place or at home. And the reasons can vary from a lack of a good foundation in study methodologies, critical thinking abilities, time management issues, lack of preparation, not understanding the...
