Parents, Friends, Administrators, Faculty, and Fellow Graduates:
We are here tonight to celebrate all of our accomplishments, but we are also here to welcome our future and all of the opportunities before us. Every choice and decision we make from this point on help to spell out our future.
The F, in future, stands for our freedom. As we leave high school we have the freedom to make our own decisions, make our own mistakes, and create our own futures. We must also use our education to protect our freedom. As Dwight D. Eisenhower reminds us: "History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid." We must be strong, confident, and wise to protect ourselves and the freedom of our community.
The first U, in future, stands for understanding, understanding ourselves, our capabilities, other people, and other cultures. Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, believes: "If one does not understand a person, one tends to regard [that person] as a fool." We......
