Is a vegetarian diet healthier then one that includes meat?
                    Darla Erhardt R.D., M.PH. listed five vegetarian postulates that William Jarvis in his essay " Why I am not a Vegetarian" argued against, I will explain why her reasoning for vegetarianism has good basis.
1. "All forms of life are sacred and all creatures have the right to live their natural lives". Not only are animals brutally murdered in the slaughtering process but the clearing of their habitat to be turned into pastures for cattle leaves them without an enviorment and sometimes destroys important ecosystems such as the amazon. The major cause of deforestation in the brazillian amazon is clearing of land for cattle pastures.
2. "It is anatomically clear that God did not design humans to eat meat". Carnivores such as lions and tigers easily consume the meat of their prey because their bodies are built with smaller guts to deal with meat consumption. Humans, however, have longer intestines, the large intestine being 1.5 meters long and the small intestine 6-8 meters long. Due to our longer intestines meat stays in our bodies longer then it would a carnivore which is designed to eat meat. The meat stays in our bodies longer allowing us to absorb more fat from the meat. Also eating read meat has been proven to increase the chances of heart disease.
3. "Slaughter is repugnant and degrading". "Animals are crowded together in battery farms, attached to conveyor belts, stunned with electricity, killed with bolts through their brain before hacing their throats cut for their blood to drain out". Why dont they put dont family pets that way?
4. "Raising animals for meats is inefficient and misuses avilable land". Not only is it determental to the Brazillian Amazon but raising livestock for meat contributes to 85 % of the United States soil erosion. If thats not enough to convinve you how about that producing 1 pound of beef wastes 5200 gallons of water-so forget buying a water saver...
