Victor Hugo Bio

The French author Victor Hugo, is described as the greatest poet of romanticism. He is known for producing large amounts of work, the ability to easily write poetry or novels, and his incredible vision.
On February 26, 1802, Victor Hugo was born in Besancon, France, to Joseph Hugo and Sophie Trebuchet. He and his siblings, Eugene and Abel, lived with their mother in Paris, France, while their father, a general and the governor of the Italian province, lived in Italy. Victor’s mother was friends with General Victor Lahorie, an enemy of the French government. He hid away from the government in Victor’s parent’s home, and he became a teacher for the Hugo boys. In his youth, Hugo wanted to write poetry. At the age of twelve years old, Victor was sent to school at the Pension Cordier. There he studied the sciences and spent down time writing poetry and plays. When he was fifteen, he won a poetry contest held by the Academie Francaise, and placed first in the Academie des Jeux Floraux's contest. Soon, became an accomplished poet.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         In 1822 Hugo married, Adele Foucher. They had four children. Their Parisian apartment became a meeting place for writers. In 1822 Hugo also published his first signed book, Odes et poesies diverses.
Hugo's friends began a group called Muse francaise. All were young writers with new and different ideas for writing.
The years 1826 and 1827 were successful ones for the Supporters of Victors ideas, which called themselves the Cenacle, which means Coterie. They called him the "prince of poets." Hugo stopped writing to King Charles X, and began his support for Napoleon I. With the support and advice of friends, Hugo created romanticism.
