The American Privilege
Voting is a civil-right, hard-won, for women, African Americans, and other citizens, and
the foundation of a democracy.   The forefathers of the United States of America created a
democracy that granted the people individual expression.   They fought for and gained the right to
freedom of speech and in this country the people call this voice a vote.   To speak out and vote
protects the interests of the people.   Millions of people around the world have no say in whom
governs them.   If the majority of citizens choose not to vote, the democracy could be replaced
by another form of government and become outdated.   Voting shows support in the democratic
process, individual expression, and reflects concern about the nation, its leaders, and the
elections outcome.  
People give many excuses for not voting, however, most non-voters agree that one vote
will not change anything.   They say that one vote does not make a difference but the reality is
that every vote counts.   Individuals are part of a collective whole- of men, women, minorities,
in addition, youth that contributes to a nation’s democracy.   People who do not vote believe
that voting, especially in the general election does not matter because of delegate votes.   The
electoral college process was created because of the number of people that will not vote.   People
must vote to make any changes in the government.   By casting a ballot, that one vote is
combined with the votes of others who share the same view and it becomes a voice.   People, especially the youth ought to register and vote to increase political participation and get politicians more interested in their ideas and opinions.  
Voting insures the democratic, representative system of government.   Suffrage in the United States was a long battle that extended the right to vote to all persons over the age of eighteen.   Voting is a privilege; therefore, one would certainly think that everyone should want to...
