“When She Tells And Encourages Him That Everything Will Just Be Fine”

Men and women are different in a lot of ways. For one, women ask for and give advice freely while men are more reluctant to give or ask for advice.   Also, men are competitive while women tend to be more cooperative. A woman's sense of self is defined through her feelings and the quality of her relationships. Women spend much time supporting, nurturing and helping each other. They experience fulfillment through sharing and relating.   On the other hand, for men to feel good about themselves, they must achieve goals by themselves. For them, doing things by on their own is a symbol of efficiency, power and competence. These are just some of the differences of men and women.
From last week’s discussion, we have studied the characteristics of men and women. We have learned the needs of both human beings. And I have liked and appreciated the discussion. It made me understand some of the things that I don’t understand with men before. I have understood better my brother, his battles, hardships and his relationship with my mom.
My brother has been through a lot since he was a kid and up to now that he’s 23, married with two kids. I remember how he would always tell my mom how sorry he is for the mistakes, problems and hurt that he has caused her. Kuya was not able to finish college since he just skipped class and went with his friends playing computer games or going to malls everyday. When we found this out, we were all devastated, especially my mom. But he asked my mom if she could still trust and give him another chance. And so she did, after La Salle, she enrolled him at Informatics. She encouraged and trusted him that he’ll do well this time. But things still did not turn out well. It is as if skipping classes has been part of his system. And so he failed his subjects again. Not having motivation to study anymore, he asked my mom if she could just work at her company. He’s thinking that instead of my mom spending for him, he’ll just work so he’ll have his own money...
