Winesburg Epilogue
George Willard, now have been living in Chicago for five years, has been promoted as Editor and Chief of Chicago Times. He lived in an apartment on the 17th floor of a building. There was a knock on his door. It was his landlord with a bundle of letters. George was told that these letters were from the people of Winesburg and his father Tom has been holding them from him for the past 5 years. He was informed that the only reason he was getting the letters was because his father had died and the letters along with a few other items had been left to him including the New Willard House. He thanked his landlord and returned to his desk.
He opened the letter at the top of the pile. It was from David Harvey. It was from about 2 years ago and it was the only letter worth mentioning.
Dear George,
I know I did not get a chance to talk to you when I fled Winesburg. I did so because I thought I killed my grandfather. Come to find out he is still alive I am not back in Ohio on the farm as happy as I was when I was young. If my grandfather tries any funny stuff again, I’m gone for good. Seriously. I will move out somewhere to make it on my own in the wilderness.
Signed,
David Harvey
P.S. My mother, Louise, committed suicide. But before that she attempted to kill my father and I heard he got away but no one has seen him since.
