Deforestation is one of the many causes and results for climate change. Trees in forests that used to absorb carbon dioxide then release them in to the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases are also produced when they decay or burned. When climate changes rapidly, hazards such as forest fires are increased. Then this becomes cycle of deforestation where forest being cut and burned down. Each year the Chinese and Japanese eat away 25 billion trees from producing disposable chopsticks and paper based products. They are one of the major importers (Japanese) and exporters (Chinese) of wood and paper based products in the world. The consequences are not only climate change, but that includes the unbalanced bio-organisms, the decreased resources and quantity of water, the destruction of habitats for animals and insects and erosion of soil.

Apart from China, the forests in Canada and Russia are under high production. About 48% of Canada’s land is covered by boreal and temperate forests that were once believed to be limitless. However, large quantity of it has been cut down for paper and wood products. The forests in British Columbia are one of the most exploited among Canada; about 38% of it is being used economically.

Without knowing the fact that our appetite are eating up the forests by using disposable wooden chopsticks and paper based utensils such as paper plates and cups.

Mitsubishi Cooperation and Daishowa Keiretsu Cooperation are two leading cooperations that involves in forest destruction by producing about 7 million disposable chopsticks and other paper related products. Yet, their main forest region target is British Columbia and Alberta. The boreal forests hold the most carbon dioxide within but yet it is targeted by many mill and lumber cooperations.
